Readers and writers are invited to a
celebration of authors, books and reading.
The Festival promotes Minnesota
authors and the books they write.

The festival is a FREE for all to attend.
There is a registration fee for workshops
and Freya Manfred’s feature presentation requires a ticket.

The Deep Valley Book Festival is a fun event for the entire family!
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

"Writing and the Wisdom of Feeling"
|
Freya Manfred's published poetry books are A Goldenrod Will Grow (Groveland Press), Yellow Squash Woman (Thorp Springs Press), American Roads (Overlook/Viking), plus two chapbooks from Red Dragonfly Press: Flesh and Blood and My Only Home. She has poems in many magazines and anthologies. She has taught advanced poetry at the University of Minnesota and the University of South Dakota, and has presented poetry workshops in many venues. Her literary memoir, Frederick Manfred: A Daughter Remembers (Minnesota Historical Society Press), was nominated for a Minnesota Book Award and an Iowa Historical Society Benjamin F. Shambaugh Award.

Frederick Manfred: A Daughter Remembers - In this poignant memoir, poet-novelist Freya Manfred recounts the artistic life and death of her father, the prolific and highly regarded author Frederick Manfred. Using family letters and passages from her father's novels as well as her own memories, she explores their powerful personal and literary relationship, which spanned nearly five decades.

William Durbin is an author and teacher who lives at the edge of Minnesota's Boundary Waters Wilderness. The winner of both the Great Lakes Book Award and the Minnesota Book award, Mr. Durbin has published eight books for young readers,including The Broken Blade, Wintering, Song of Sampo Lake, and three books in Scholastic's My Name Is America series: The Journal of Sean Sullivan, The Journal of Otto Peltonen, and The Journal of C.J. Jackson. Mr. Durbin has also supervised writing research projects for the NCTE, Middlebury College, and the Bingham Trust for Charity.
