Rachael Hanel

Rachael Hanel is a writer and associate professor of Mass Communication in Mankato, Minnesota. Her book, "Not the Camilla We Knew: One Woman’s Life from Small-Town America to the Symbionese Liberation Army", was released in December 2022. Her memoir, "We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger’s Daughter" (2013, University of Minnesota Press), was a finalist for a Minnesota Book Award. She has written several nonfiction books for children.

Her essays have appeared in online and print literary journals such as War, Literature & the Arts, Bellingham Review, and New Delta Review.
